For Christmas, I would like to get my daughter a new head unit and all new speakers....while trying not to break the bank.

Amazon is my best source at the moment, so I wonder if any of you have researched replacing the speakers in the 8 speaker system and could steer me in the right direction?

I am looking for a pair of 1" tweeters, a pair of 4" speakers, a pair of 6.5" speakers for the back and "something" to replace the pair of 8" speakers in the door.

This is the head unit that she likes: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0091UW7F...d=ATVPDKIKX0DER although I don't know if it's any good.

Also do I need any harnesses or anything? (I know nothing about car audio)

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated....thanks!

Oh and also, she would like some sort of amp and subwoofer w/box in the trunk (her dad is going to get it for her) but I don't know what to look for there either (nor does he).

Thanks again!

That's one I'm looking at getting, from everything I can find it's supposed to be a really good unit for the money. The problem you have is that you have the 8-speaker system, so that complicates matters a little. You'll have to rerun the wiring and bypass the factory amplifier for the new speakers. What I'd suggest is getting a component set for the tweeters and 4" speakers, coaxial 6.5" speakers for the rear, and then getting shallow mount 8" sub-woofers for the bottom door panels. Then you wouldn't need a box in the back. You even might be able to find a small enough amplifier to sit in place of the factory amplifier for powering the 8" subs. On that particular head-unit run power to the component set and coaxial speakers from the head-unit itself, then can use the rear/sub RCA outputs to go to the amp and then out to the 8" subs.
