Hi guys,
I am about to change my fuel filter or my 96 2.2 Celica. I located it but have a couple questions: 1) What's the process? Do I need to disconnect my negative from the battery? Pull a fuse? Not sure here... 2) When checking the ignition coil, I pulled off one of the spark plug wires and set it next to the metal frame in the engine bay...like 1" away. I then attempted to start the engine. It started but no arching came from the plug wire. Did I do something wrong here? Thanks! |

the filter is easier to get to if you remove the airbox and intake hose. but I have to admit I tried to get the damn thing off the other day and it was super tight.
Be Sure To Use Two Wrenches!! one to hold the filter nut and one on the other nut. Don't kink/break the metal fuel line. some say you should discharge the fuel pressure but im not sure where the bleeder is on this car. others say it won't hurt squirt much fuel anyway. (but maybe the fuel pressure is making it harder to get off??) here's a shot of what my cap and rotor looked like when I replaced it, and they weren't even bad enough to make the engine stall. for the most part if they're not nice and shiny get a new one, for only $10-20 ![]() you can see the crispy edges where the rotor touches the pins ![]() ![]() for the fuel filter I say be sure you have wrenches that fit properly, I'm going to get a 6point 17mm box end for the top of the banjo nut, and an open end 19mm for the nut on the filter. for the flare nut on the bottom I think it'd be better to use what they call a "line wrench" its sort of 3/4 the way between an open and box end. don't bend the fuel line! -------------------- Bust a Deal; Face the Wheel.
