HAHAHAHA. Thats a funny joke! You were joking? Right? I used to think this also. It could probably be done for a cheaper than I did it but its probably going to be pushing hard it to get it under 2k and getting it under 1k isn't going to happen. Granted, most of the stuff I have is really high quality and you could opt for less. There are a lot of parts you can use off other cars that you can get for almost nothing at the junk yard but be prepared to spend lots and lots of time researching and searching for the parts. Heres just an idea of where I'm at (not including the other engine and tranny I'm building): $2250 All the stuff I bought from Charlie Intercooler Turbo Oil line Injectors Fuel pump Charge piping BOV Wastegate Manifold $300 SAFC2 $300 Gages $130 Boost controller $225 RRFPR $50 Turbo flange material for dowpipe $22 Wastegate flange $15 Oil manifold $10 Weld fitting for oil pan $freebie Turbo drain line (from work) $freebie misc AN fittings (from work) $freebie porting on exhaust mani, turbo, and intake manifold Thats over $3300 and I'm sure there are a lot of little things I'm forgetting and there are still a few things to purchse...the largest of which is the tubing and fittings for the downpipe and exhaust which will probably be $400 or so. I'm not happy with the intercooler I have, so that will get upgraded soon, after everything is working. I also don't like the charge piping, its steel and way too heavy so that will eventually get upgraded. I'm building a new engine, tranny, and differential so theres a lot more money. Also keep in mind that I'm doing a lot of this myself and have the use of hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of machines, welders, and tools at my disposal. Not having that stuff would cost me a lot more. Places I could have saved money and sacrificed quality: Downpipe and exhaust (don't have to be stainless, could be cheaper aluminized steel) BOV (use junkyard bosch valve from turbo porsche 944, about $50 new, cheaper used) Wastegate (could have used internal wastegate with turbo) Almost new t3/t4 (could have used junkyard t3 ~$250 in good condition) Could have bought used safc instead of safc2 (I really don't think the knock detection is much good, the 8 point safc would be ok for lower power levels but the 12 (safc2) is nicer for more) Could have bought cheaper gages (but you're really skimping on important stuff here) |
