Hey guys i have a 94 Celica ST Automatic Transmission that i brought back to life after 3 years of sitting I drove it 3 years ago and it ran perfectly fine, but now that I brought it back to life I was doing some exhaust work on the car and every once in a while revving it up quite a bit to test the exhaust. Well after i was all finished with the exhaust i decided to check everything else, I checked the transmission fluid and saw that it was a little low, I saw that the transmission had d2 stamped on the drain plug (dexron 2 or dextron 2) and so just to be sure i consulted my Haynes book for it. It said to use dexron 2 or dextron 2. So ok now that i know what it needs i decided to see where i could buy some, I couldnt find any locally and only found dexron 3 or dextron 3. So I did my research online and 95% of the people said yes it is backwards compatible and 5% of people said that some cars such as the supra MUST have dexron 2 or dextron 2. So I went out and bought some dexron 3 or dextron 3 and poured in a quart, the level on the dip stick (while the engine is running) was now at an acceptable level, However I cant drive it now cause at 2.5k rpm and above and 900rpm and below i get torque converter shudder. It seems that i bought crap dexron 3 or dextron 3. Can anyone confirm that they did this with their car? does anyone have similar issues? Does the ST only take dexron 2 or dextron 2?
