The hybrid.
So I believe that the 98+ 5SFE block is suppose to be the strongest and is a direct mate with the rev3 3SGTE Head. Apart from the water jacket needing a bit of drilling? Looking at the comparisons I cant see the difference. Does anyone know? |

Using a 98+ block from a camry (it's important to stress that it has to come from a 98+ camry, because the celica block is the same 94-99 throughout)
you won't need to do drilling if you get the right head. -------------------- 1993 Celica GT Coupe - sold

Thanks. So 98+ block matches rev3 head with no drilling needed. 98+ block does cost more. I am also contemplating if a rev 4 block is any better compared to the 5S. |

It will match, but you will most likely need the headgasket ATS racing sells for use with the 98 block. The difference for the most part is that thr 98 block is more closed deck than the previous blocks. Using a regular headgasket will impede a lot of the flow to the head iirc. I would advise to get a gen4 longblock if you can, I think the benefit of a 5s block hybrid doesn't outweigh the cost, on most cases. If anything, I'd do a stroker 4th gen using a 5s crankshaft. But a stock 4th gen is a lot easier and a lot cheaper than doing a hybrid, IMO -------------------- 1993 Celica GT Coupe - sold
