ok so i was reading some old posts and read that the st205 electronics read kilometers, which of course we all know. but i never grasped the fact that our odometers will change from miles to km (why cant the US be simple like the rest of the world)

i use my trip mileage a lot. will i need one of these signal converters to have it work like stock usdm?

I started with what I know to do, I swap engine into my car, I knew it was too much work to make it a AWD. I kept it FWD. Went to take a crack at doing the wiring conversion. Than, I realize, shoot, this is out of my league.

They all get the same signal from the transmission, just the speedometer has different electronics on the board for anything mph vs kph. It just converts the incoming signal to a different output signal for either of the two. If you swap a kph speedometer into your cluster, it will still read the proper kms. If you leave you mph gauge in there, it will read the proper mileage. The odometer is on the speedometer so it uses the same circuitry which means it will read fine if you have your mph gauge in the cluster.
