I have a 97 celica gt 5SFE with a S54 transmission and in need of a transmission bearing replacement kit (without the gears, synchros etc).
Local auto stores do not currently carry this (although listed on their websites $250). I cannot afford a complete rebuild kit, which is available online (and do not need one as the gears look good). Anyone know where I can buy this kit? I've spent hours and hours trying to find an online store and days on this site learning about this transmission (thank you!) Junkyards in the Kansas City area are scarce of this transmission type. It's been 2 weeks now and need to put it back together. Any help of where I could find a transmission bearing kit would be appreciated. I am not lazy just lost and on a tight budget. 6gc.net Threads Reviewed Include: - http://www.6gc.net/forums/index.php?showto...5&hl=tranny - http://www.6gc.net/forums/index.php?showto...71721&st=80 - http://www.6gc.net/forums/index.php?showto...6&hl=tranny - http://www.6gc.net/forums/index.php?showto...ad+differential |

If you already have your transmission apart each bearing will have a part number which will make it even cheaper as then you can just buy them from anyone that specializes in bearings.
Everywhere I look it has the S52/53 rebuild kit for the S54 Celica, so that tells me you could use the bearings out of a earlier Celica or Camry. Though depending on how much that'd cost you might be better off buying new bearings. Another option if money is tight would be to look into using the S51 transmission from the later Camry/Solara as it should be easier to find. Also it's geared more for economy so you'll get a considerable boost in fuel economy. This post has been edited by Box: Nov 22, 2014 - 2:49 PM -------------------- 2001 Miata LS 5-speed
