Ok today coming home from work, before i pulled into my garage stall i noticed a puddle of stuff on the ground. I got out to see what it was, and to my suprise it was motor oil... the puddle was about the size of a basketball, and the situation was not looking to good seeing as i just cleaned my spot the day before, so i know the leaking had just started... So I opened my hood to find little droplets of oil sprayed all over everything on the front left side of the underhood area... I checked my dipstick, everything turned out normal, so i started the car up. Then i notice a thin stream of oil smoke coming from the now oil sprayed area... Anyways i just got back from the dealer about an hour ago so they can tell me whats wrong. I have no idea what is wrong here and im worried this is going to be expensive... Grrr...

a head gasket shouldn't be that much...

Labor. It'll easily take a dealer or a garage 2-3 days or more to get it all done correctly. Mind you, pulling the head off isn't an easy task (numerous parts to go off and on... the dealers might actually just pull the motor to make it easier). They probably won't charge much for parts but the labor will be pretty intense.

As far as the oil leak goes... headgasket is probably one of the worst case scenarios... but be glad you found it and took it in. Headgaskets can cause major headaches not to mention engine failure. Honestly speaking... you're better off getting a used engine and replace the sucker if you can't do the new headgasket yourself... that's the easy way out. Shops will always charge a pretty penny to do that sort of work... although 1200 is on the expensive side.
