Spoiler Alert! (I am not a trained mechanic).
During a rebuild some months ago, both drive shafts were out for the clutch replacement. One of the drive shafts was missing the Dynamic Balancer thingy. Allowing myself to be BS'd by the counter guy (turns out it was only half BS) into believing that's how they were, I happily installed it. Well, the shaking and shimmying got pretty bad so I sucked it up, was given the part swap (new shaft still no balancer thingy tho). But not to worry, Toyota was right there for me with $98.00 worth of parts to add on the balancer. (I say only half BS, because new shafts manufactured for these apparently DO NOT have the balancer, or the various steps along the length. it appears to be on solid rod 1.5 inches in Diameter the entire exposed length. This is where it gets a little odd. long story short the right side axle never bottomed out during installation (the spring clip never gets past the splines). Well, pretty soon, all the gear oil on the driveway (and friends driveways) had me looking under the hood for leaks, and there, viewed from another angle was the driveshaft clearly 17-20 MM out of place from the outputs. the sight convinced me to undo everything and see what the hell was going on. Take a look at the attachments. https://www.pinterest.com/tattooz2/96-celicas/ |

You may want to host those pictures where we can see them without making an account or logging in. Imgur and other places are good, can zoom in full size and see the details.
