if i remove my cat will this trigger the check engine light to come on and if so can i reposition the 02 sensor so that it does not go on

I have a straight pipe from my header back to a muffler...no cat and no resinator...sounds fine and dont smell to bad...noticed a big gain in power too wish my clutch isnt bad so i could still feel the power i felt when i first got it all put on.
 but its still cool.
