I have a '97 GT and the engine check light has been on ever since i did my auto to manual swap. My mechanic said it was just a product of the swap, but i was thinking i shoudl make sure. I checked in my Chiltons manual and it says i need to use some special tool (OBD II scan tool) to check the code to check the codes for the 96-98 models. I dont have this tool, but was wondering if i jsut connceted the TE1 and E1 terminals anyway, will i get the beeps and be able to figure out from them? Or do you NEED the scan tool like the manual says?

Check these to links, ones from 6gc and the other is from toyotacelicaonline.com
Tells you how to diagnose your problem. Check engine Trouble Codes Reading Diagnostic Codes Do a search there's quite a few other posts that might be able to help you out. Search words under "check engine light" Hope this help....I've been having the same problem these past few days. But the light went away after I messed around with my O2 sensor. |
