Well I finally went out and bought myself a new car with the insurance money from my totalled Celica ($5000). After shopping around for a few days I found a really nice '95 del Sol Si with under 90,000 miles that was painted red. I got it for $3500 and now I have $1500 to spend on the car. I'll get some pics up in a few days after I get my camera back from my friend.
Only bad thing is that the car has a giant spoiler on the back but I'll have that off by the time I get the camera back. See you guys, I enjoyed my time here and even though I didn't get another Celica, I still might lurk around here. Oh yes, and I do plan on swapping the del Sol engine to a bigger one so that I can actually get a decently fast car. |

No doubt toyota makes a rock solid engine... but that doesn't mean Honda does not. Take VTEC for example... moving pins and rockers in the head, designed to operate at and beyond 6000 rpms, all covered under warantee. Honda has to have a lot of faith in their products. Also consider, Skunk2 has built some of the quickest FF drag cars out of Hondas (10-11 seconds n/a BABY!), with stock cranks that live up to and beyond 10,000 rpms. In a daily driver... they should last as long as toyotas... albeit, Hondas do tend to drink oil after a while (200k miles long while). Maybe in the old days, pre OBD1... they weren't as reliable as Toyotas... but now a days, they're just as reliable. If you look at all of the new low-maintence engines, both Toyota and Honda have gone with timing chains, which eliminate a very large engine maintenece hassle... I too have a history with Toyotas... 300K miles on a 3AC AE82 rolla... a truck that's still hualing junk after 20 years, running perfect with the immortal 22R, and various others. My family is strictly toyota... but I'm not ignorant enough to say that makes toyota the absolute best, or would make me look down on other makes and models. -------------------- "It's ok to be naked girl... 1995 AT200 Celica ST: stocked out daily driver... 1984 AE86 Corolla GT-SR5: silvertop 20V 4AGE project car jacked up with goodies... 1991 SW2x MR2 n/a: bare bones hardtop model soon to be... |
