the Solo Baric series i heard hits really hard, so i decided to get soem S8L7s
they are dual 4-ohm speakers with 450watts max.

im looking to get a profile amp because they have a nice warranty and are good amps from what i hear.

basically im curious what kind of power i want to run. there's KenWoods that i would get that put out 150X2 for thesame price as a profile putting 200X2

one profile does 200X2 @4 and 400 or 450X2 @2...i don't plan to blow em, but should i stay away from it for safety?

all opinions appreciated.

Subs are damaged more by too little power, than by too much.

As you mention, if it were possible, turning the volume down would damage your speakers. wink.gif

The myth comes from misconception.

IF people install too small of an amp they MAY find themselves wanting more output than what they have.
They may not understand what the gain control is for, and crank the gain knob "because it gets louder when I do".

In cranking the gain knob, they are clipping the signal - potentially massively.
They are increasing the power, but they are wickedly distorting the signal.

Your amp is "rated" to produce a certain amount of power, while keeping it's distortion specs as they are also listed on the spec sheet.

In cranking the gain knob, you can send out much more power than the amp is designed to produce.
But it's not just the power spec that'll be out of whack with respect to what's "rated" on the spec sheet... so will all the distortion specs.

The amp is rated to be used properly.

If you abuse the amp, and cause it to send a larger amount of exceptionally distorted power to your sub... and that amount of power exceeds your sub's RMS rating...
...it's not because you didn't have enough power for your sub, it's because you fed it too much power.
You just abused a smaller amp to get it to produce too much power.

Phew.

After reading through this, you can see why it's a huge stretch to say "too little power kills".
It's more true to say "abuse kills". smile.gif
