Hi all,
Can anyone help me identify what or where in the UK I can get the speed limiter and spedometer converted on a 1994 JDM SS-II ST202? I bought the car from an importer who was apparently selling the car on behalf of another private importer, hence the speedo only reads KPM (and only to 180!) and the car cuts out (rather dramatically) once it reaches this. The dealer promised to sort out the speedo and expressed supprise about the limiter but since it's an auto the only solution he could provide was a new speedo face that reads up to 110 MPH... I also understand from other threads that cutting wires isn't wise on an auto to remove the limiter. Apart from the obvious danger of the thing cutting out while accelarating round a corner, it's getting a bit embarrising being passed on the motorway by, well just about everything.... |

Well i've searched everywhere and found lots of ads for devices to convert KPM to miles which will also remove the limer (well shift it to 180MPH where it's not a problem) but non of them seem to be quoted for the automatic. I was hoping to find a replacement UK ECU but they never sold the Celica as an auto in the UK (so i'm not sure if it would fit or work) and a uk dash wouldn't have the indicatiors for the auto transmission though it would at least read to 160 MPH?
If i'd bought a manual SS-II this wouldn't have been a problem as I could just fit a UK ECU and dash or fit a sppedo converter. Trouble is I do quite a few long journeys and it's difficult to keep looking down at the dash to avoid hitting the limiter. As soon as you go down a hill your speed picks up and the engine cuts. With the car just below the limiter it's only doing around 115 and there are times when i've felt embarrised about holding up the traffic (seriously). Anyway what's the point of having a Celica if it's slower than my battered old Rover 600. I might as well just bought another. ;-) |
