i am about to install 2 sony 12 inch subs and an amp (not sure which one at the moment) but will it be neccessary to replace my stock speakers??

First off, the scratching you heard is your HU clipping...very bad, turn it down. Try turn down the bass going to the speakers in your car...that may help the clipping.
Sony HU's are "OK" but everything else they make SUCKS. If you think anything sony sounds good, you haven't heard a REAL system. Yes it is budget, but I bet you I could get a better sounding system for the same or cheaper price than what you paid. But since you already have the subs.....give each sub 300w that should last a month or so  Woohoo you can set off car alarms and get pulled over.....I could do that with my old 10" |
