and naturally i want to do this really bad but i was wondering what i would need to do to my car to make this safe? i heard it was something about the ecu, i dont know. anyways instead of asking him how he does it i thought id ask you guys what i would need to do to be able to bury my needle? -------------------- Former: 96 GT 5 speed (i/p/e) Fate- rear ended by mack truck

Its sort of like this:
Peak HP rpm on my Eclipse was 6250, even though redline was 7000. If I shift at exactly 6250, I'd hit a 'perfect shift' and the power curve would be great. Anything after 6250 is like letting off the gas pedal, hurts times and hurts engines. To answer the other question. Think of a bicycle, like a 15 speed. It has 3 main gears.. Do you accelerate faster in 1st at top speed.... or 2nd gear. Sure your legs aren't moving as fast but the transmission of power is great and your bike will accelerate faster. In 1st, you can pump your legs like no other and get no where because once you hit the 'peak' your doing nothing but burning yourself out. Your ST.... dunno... I have a GT. I wouldn't shift past 5400 though. That seems to be my power bend. Does anyone else have the same? As for you racing... you gotta know that engine like your own hands. Release RPM, shift RPM, the clutch release point, the clutch pressure before burning, double clutching (if you racing with curves), power bend of the engine (like... you know your curve has massive power between 3000-4800... but peaks at 5400... try shifting at a lower rpm if your racing a car with top end {that was an example - i made up the #'s}).. and all kinds more stuff. Its not as simple as burning the clutch, lifting the front end of the car, spinning tires, and making smoke. However, if your friend is burying the needle, you probably can beat him with your ST if you learn how to drive right. Good luck and sorry for the long post. EDIT: I didn't see that spunky typed his power peak - 5500. I said 5400 so, its probably right in between somewhere. This post has been edited by turboinduction: Jul 21, 2004 - 2:08 PM |
