what's up guys, I'm planning on having my car repainted by the end of august and I'm gonna be doing a pretty extreme paint job. I want to paint it kandy red with two layers of metalflake. So I'd spray a silver base, then metal flake, then kandy red, then metalflake, and then my final clear. My idea is to have two layers of metalflake, one under the red kandy, and one over it, that way it's got red sparkles and silver ones. I'll be using House of Kolor paints.
Anybody with paint experience see any problems with doing that? thanks, Ryan -------------------- ![]() |

Wow.. I went to the paint store today and got floored. Here's what happened: When I went there a month ago they quoted me $300 to $400 for the paint to do the paint job like i wanted. Then a few weeks later they requote it at $500- $600. And they were just ball park prices...
So I go there today to buy the stuff. Keep in mind he only gave me ballpark prices so I didn't know the exact amount. Well as he's ringing it up he starts telling me how I'm probably gonna have to rethink my paint job... sure enough it all came to $1400 just for the paint to do the kandy red with two layers of flake, $1000 kandy red and one layer of flake, and $800-$900 for just kandy... so hehe, i guess I'll be spraying it with something a little more affordable. $600 seemed reasonable to me. But even that... i'd hate for someone to key it and ruin a $600 + labor paint job. Now that I know the value of what I was gonna do... there's no way i'd get a $1400 +labor paint job and have someone key it and ruin it... so back to the drawing board. ![]() -------------------- ![]() |
