 shift knob question, help |

Okay so i bought a new shift knob from Gilbert which is great. But the new knob is a little shorter than the stock knob so there is a small gap of maybe 1/4 inch between the bottom of the knob and the boot. So i was thinking i could just cut the shifter (the actual metal bar) down a little bit so it was flush. In doing this i would be cutting off some of the thread. So if i do cut a small portion of the thread would i still be able to put my stock shifter back on if i wanted to. thanks guys. any sugestions are welcome

Well the new knob doest attach by the threads so worse case is id just stick with that. but id like to have to option of putting the stock back on. I was more worried that if i cut the shifter down the stock knob wouldnt have enough thread to be tight.
