I know that the CAI gives you that extra air that the engine likes, but ive heard that it doesn't filter as well as the drop in filters and results in a engine life descrease. like 15-20% in some cases. Is this true or false?

My boss, who's a fairly knowledgable mechanical engineer, said that cone filters aren't as effective as box filters simply because they suck in air at a higher rate.

The reason cones are sometimes not as efficient as box, simply because of velocity. Cones tend to completely ignore velocity while box intakes have slightly more restriction thus slightly more velocity but only in the lower rpms. An intake set-up with a cone filter will outflow stock any day. That's why turbo cars and such come stock with cones...

Oh yeah, and more power generally means shorter engine life.

Hehehehehe... not from an intake buddy... and not always the case.
