Hey guys.. while driving my Manual 1995 Celica GT, I shifted from 2nd to third today and heard this awful "kerplnk" sound ...
As if some sort of ring flew of or something. Anyway, I've been trying to shift and I seem to easily be able to shift into 1st, 3rd and 5th. But 2, 4 and reverse.. they barely hold and fall out. Weird eh? Anyone have any logic to this? Please help. I Have NO reverse gear right now, and I'm short shifting! It's painful -- I'd like to be armed with some info when I go to the mechanic.. Thanks guys!!! Shaun! |

My car did this after I did my clutch. There are two little U-shaped clips that hold your shifter cables to the transmission, one of them has popped off I think its the one closest to the front of the car. Go to your dealership and buy a two new ones (replace both while your there). Its an easy fix. Just be glad cuz the last time that happened to me I found the clip logged inside of my rear right tire. Had to get an exchange on the tire (free) and a new clip... that day sucked.
