There is a reason behind it. Well two really, gas and miles. Here in the UK our gas (petrol) is 95 to 98 RON, and Japan has up to 100. Your lower octane stuff means the engines have to be significantly detuned. And because everywhere in America is so spread out, you expect your engines to do a lot more miles than we do.
