Last week I experienced a serious problem with my transmission. While driving, I was shifting normally at 4500 rpm, and all of a sudden while in midshift it jammed, I could not select any gear, as desperately as I tried I had to run my baby down a hill in neutral and hope to swing her around to get back to the house. My mechanic has told me that the springs on the clutch exploded. Any of you guys with more mechanical experience have any idea how this happened?
My plan is to take a trip to Reno from Los Angeles this Friday. Do you think with this car just after the flywheel, clutch, and t.o. bearing were taken care of it will be safe to take? |

QUOTE(Sev408 @ Nov 30, 2004 - 2:55 AM) ok well first stop shifting at 4500 daily driving your just killing gas and obviously your clutch. Shifting at 4500 is probably better for the clutch than what you are doing Sev. Shifting at that low of an RMP while moving can place a TON of stress on the whole drivetrain. Unless you pussy shift and bring the engine up to speed with the Transmission which wears down your clutch terribly. How do you shift exactly? BTW the clutch springs will only explode if they have been under a TON of stress for an extended period of time unless you got a faulty clutch. Not to mention guys you have DOHC engines...they really don't mind being up at the higher RPM's...they are designed to run at the higher RPM's when needed. Sure shifting at lower RPM's will get you better gas mileage but whats the fun of having a DOHC engine if you can't use it right? This post has been edited by Anub1s: Nov 29, 2004 - 10:25 PM |
