Two Slidell teenagers were booked with aggravated assault this week for allegedly pointing toy handguns out the windows of a sport utility vehicle and threatening to kill pedestrians as they drove by.

On Monday, Slidell police pulled over a black Ford Expedition at Robert Boulevard and West Pinewood Drive that matched witnesses' descriptions and found a stash of toy guns sitting next to the 16-year-old driver. Police later arrested a 15-year-old boy also believed to have taken part in the pranks.

The 16-year-old told police that he and his friends threatened 20 people Monday in and around Slidell, including drivers on Interstate 12, said police spokesman Capt. Rob Callahan.

Two pedestrians reported being threatened Monday with what they thought were real weapons.

A 22-year-old woman told police she was jogging along West Hall Avenue at 10:40 a.m. when she was approached by the Expedition. Two boys in the SUV leaned out their windows pointing the guns and talking about killing her, police said. She ran for cover as the vehicle drove away.

Monday about 2:30 p.m., a 53-year-old man heard a noise from the street as he walked on Robert Boulevard near Audubon Drive. He turned to see a boy hanging out of the Expedition's window pointing a handgun and making "shooting" noises. The man ran behind a nearby building.

Investigators were looking for three other teenagers believed to have been riding in the SUV.

Police Chief Freddy Drennan said the teens were lucky the people didn't shoot back.

"These juveniles truly don't understand what could have happened while pulling their cute prank on unsuspecting people," he said in a prepared statement. "Can you imagine if they pulled their toy guns on an off-duty police officer or an authorized citizen carrying a concealed handgun? . . . Obviously, common sense was not being exercised by these juveniles."

The kids that were involved....well a couple of them
