 Custom Short Shifter, - Is this a good idea?? |

My friend made a custom short shifter by simply cutting it and re-threading it.
I would like to have a shorter shifter just because ours are so high when they are stock... i'm not looking for any performance upgrade just to have it shorter. I thought I had the stock shifter but maybe I don't... Was wondering what the easiest way to tell is. Or if someone could just have a look at this picture and tell me if it looks like stock height...
