My friend made a custom short shifter by simply cutting it and re-threading it.

I would like to have a shorter shifter just because ours are so high when they are stock... i'm not looking for any performance upgrade just to have it shorter.

Would you guys think this is ok to do?

Hmm a little off topic but I always get told by people who drive my car that my shifter is really short. I thought I had the stock shifter but maybe I don't... Was wondering what the easiest way to tell is. Or if someone could just have a look at this picture and tell me if it looks like stock height...

Yes that is stock, and like ghost said, the stock shifter isnt bad at all. compared to my friends camery , saturn, maxima its short.
