Car around 90,000Kms now and it is apparently time for the "big" service. I asked for a quote from a Toyota dealer and it is gonna set me back alot if i let them do it.
I have changed the engine oil , oil filter and air filter. Going to check the spark plugs this weekend. Anything else that should be changed/serviced? Things that arent too complicated as I am still learning bout the car... The car is a 98 ST202, auto. One more thing, the top piece of the housing for the lights(low beam) has broken off. it is the part that is bolted onto the frame. sort of snapped off from the light. How should i go about repairing that? http://img35.exs.cx/my.php?loc=img35&image=picture0030gk.jpg This post has been edited by soven: Mar 23, 2005 - 1:51 AM |

I recommend timing belt and water pump. I never go through the dealer for that stuff, though, as they charge about twice as much and there are better mechanics out there. Start by checking the phone book or the forum for a good toyota specialist near you. Whenever I have mine in for those things I have them look at all the seals and replace anything that's leaking (tranny axle seals and valve cover gaskets might be getting there...). As far as stuff you can do yourself at that mileage I would swap the rotor, distributor cap, spark plug wires and spark plugs. I do mine every 100k miles and I use the Bosch 4 prong spark plugs. Make sure you draw a picture of which plug goes where if you can't read the numbers on the distributor cap once it's installed... The timing belt and water pump should last until 120k miles if you haven't been driving stop and go and dusty roads, etc, but to be safe I do mine every 60. Good luck!
