Simple and general question.......what is a limited slip diff, what does it do, and who has it??

The inner wheel moves less in either case, hence the name "differential." The limited slip differential uses clutches or fluid that engage when one wheel is spinning considerably faster than the other, so that more power is transferred to the wheel with traction.

[right][snapback]262193[/snapback][/right] Yup. Think of it this way. Jack the car up, clamp the left front wheel and attach a something that measures torque to it. Turn the car on and engage first. The front right will spin away in space. The front left wil register virtually no force at all. Power will go to the easiest wheel to spin. This is bad when you have one wheel on tarmac, and one on gravel. Or, you're in a hairpin and the inside wheel is light - which is why you will spin all the power away. LSD tries to stop this, by Limiting the amount of difference between the wheels. Obviously it has to allow enough for the car to go around corners....... -------------------- JDM ST205
