 3rd gear crunching, When I downshift 3rd gear grinds |

I think my 3rd gear synchro is gone, when I downshift without blipping it grinds. If I do blip i usually have to get it over 4000 before it stops. Anybody else have this problem.

Hi Guys,
I was just passing thru and saw this thread... I'm old school, '89 ST165 GT4. The problem you mention has been around since at least my E50 tranny. 3rd gear syncros notoriously weak, 1st will probably be the next to go. Not much you can do about it beyond stopgaps already mentioned. Almost everyone I know here in NYC has swapped tranny rather than the expense of repair! BTW, I was taught to "blip the throttle" to rev match when downshifting almost 25 years ago! I'm with you! |
