how much gains would i expect from a p&p if any1 did that to their 5sfe?...i was told that it would probably get 10-15hp....but after the fact, would i also need to adjust the valves seeing that engine work was done?

Port/polish isn't really a "power adder". It will increase the engine's efficiency, but you can't put any numbers on the increase mostly because it's all based on the port design, flow volume, velocity, amougst other things. Even with a ported head, if your intake manifold and exhaust manifold are poorly flowing, you're not gonna feel a thing. It's just not one of those things that add immediate power because a ported head is more of a support modification that allows other parts to work better.
