well my parents will let me do stuff to my car to make it look nice and stuff like that, but no performance whatsoever. i still have to talk them into a cai. they let my brother do what he wanted to his car. i am more responsible (better grades, i have 1 speeding ticket, he has 7, i listen more). the only thing he has for him is that he argues. i just say, "ok, whatever." well anyway, what should i do about it? i have a swap in my future but thats not going anywhere when i cant get a cai.

Straight out ask them why they don't trust you to be responsible with your car and your money. That's what you've described, a lack of faith in your character.

Your parents do not trust you with any improvements to your car, because they think you'll immediately go out and test the limits. Your parents don't trust you to spend money on your car, because they think you won't keep to a budget.

Either you are a responsible person, worthy of choosing how to spend your money on your car, or your parents have raised an untrustworthy spendthrift.

Don't make it an issue of challenging their authority -- grey area arguements never go well. Make it a black and white issue about your character. Do they trust you, or not? And if not, why are you less trustworthy than your brother (but don't bring up your brother until they say they can't trust you, comparisons are also a grey area and difficult to argue).

As preparation, get a list of modifications your brother made to his cars.
