Well I tried to remove some scotch tape adhesive from my car using alcohol and it scratched the car up for some reason. i used a soft towel and I rubbed it softly. I don't know why. But i bought this scratch remover thing from an auto parts store nearby. I wanted to know if anyone's used this before and if it'll work. Thanks.

Sounds like what you have are scratches in the clear coat. Meguiar's ScratchX, which is designed for hand application, is a good polish which will smooth the clearcoat down rather than hiding the scratches.
Stay away from the high-speed buffer unless you know how to use it. It's a much more aggressive means of dealing with scratches, and usually unnecessary. A dual-action or random orbital buffer is a middle step, and will get out those scratches you cannot by hand without the same danger of marring your paint a high-speed rotary buffer carries. Easy test: if you can feel the scratches with your fingernail, you need a light abrasive polish (e.g. ScratchX) to smooth the clear coat. If you can fit your fingernail into them, you need an aggressive compound, a buffer, and professional using it. If you can fit your fingernail into the scratch and move it back and forth without coming out of the scratch, you're looking at a touch-up. However, your phrase "scratch remover thing" (could you be a tad more vague) suggests you got a tool rather than a polish. Care to provide more info? |
