So I was driving along with my window down and I started hearing this weird grinding rattling type noise... It was only when I was moving and wasn't related to engine RPMs, so anyways I got home and had my dad listen while I drove the car by and he said it was coming from my front left wheel. Sure enough, we look inside and see this:

So we take the wheel off and out pops this big piece of metal that was once part of the brake rotor cover...

Anyways... was just going to ask if you guys knew A) what the exact name for this part is, B) how much will it cost, C) will it be tough to replace?

Also, anyone had this happen to them? Should I replace all four if I'm replacing this one? The others didn't look too bad from the outside.

Never ceases to amaze me the amount of 'misinformation' that is produced on the internet rolleyes.gif

They are stone guards, not dust covers. Designed to prevent stones etc from being trapped between the rotor and the hub assembly and caliper. It simply looks as if the dreaded ferrous oxide has been at work and the guard has simply 'disintergrated'.
Unless you are doing a lot of driving on gravel roads, then I wouldn't bother. If they are the same as on the GT-FOUR, then they are spot welded in place which gives me the feeling that they won't be available as a seperate item.

In fact, I've actually removed them from my car. Why? Because it allows more air to circulate over the rotors which can lead to better brakes as less heat is generated. Gravel rally cars get around this issue by still using stone guards, but they are made from an alloy mesh. Keeps the stones out but allows decent airflow for extra cooling.

LOL... call it whatever you want... but they more or less cover the rotor to protect it from debris. It really doesn't hurt things if it get's removed... and that's the main point... but I don't see any "misinformation"...
