Changing dome light, would it work? Options

I saw this LED light on ebay for some car that you could supposedly replace the dome light with, it looked pretty cool, but does anyone know if there is a certain kind of LED bulb out there that would go into our dome light fixtures? if so what type?

the kind of bulb it uses is a called a ba9. you can led fabrications allot of places online. i've used a bunch of them now and the problem is that the regular bulb projects it's light all around and the leds project light more focused.

this'd be fine if the bulb fixture pointed the bulb downward. but (at least on my 6gc) it points the bulb to the side, leaving most of the light shining into a non-useful place in the dome housing.

been thinking about solutions for a while. here's what i've come up with so far.

1) take a ba9 base. wire it up to a perfboard with 3 bright leds pointing downward. (requires some electronics knowledge.

2) take a ba9 led bulb. solder heavy guage wire to it at + and - terminals. bend the wire 90 degrees, then attach it to the bulb socket.

3) take a ba9 led bulb. a ba9 base. and some heavy guage wire. solder wires to led, then bend wires 90 degrees, then solder them to the ba9 base.

4) put a ba9 led bulb in there. but make some sort of mirror mounted at 45 degrees with the bulb's focus, so you can reflect the focal light downward.

haven't tried anything so far, but number 2 seems the easiest.
