I doubt im the only one who passes people on double yellows. I don't do it all the time but if i want to get by someone and its clear ahead I go for it...a few times when it wasn't clear but I set up the overtaking well so no worries. Surprises the hell out of people though! I wana hear some driving stories and habits, tendencies etc... I guess my problem is i cut corners alot and take apexes like its a one lane road...wups

My wife & I acctually have to give some credit to our Gen 6 for saving our hides.
The day after we got married we drove our 97 Celica SX (USA=GT) on our honeymoon to Queensland (About 1500Klm trip.) Half way there just out side Sydney we were traveling at 115Klm/h (Sorry don't know what that is in Miles) along a 2 lane highway when a semi-trailer (18 Wheeler) pulls out infront of us into our lane. It happened so fast & he came out of no where. All I remeber seeing is the side if the Semi (Gas Tanks on the side) from there it was pure reaction. I almost locked the steering wheel at 115Klm/h hard right into the next lane. (Lucky there was no one overtaking me). Then hard left to strighted her up again.....all without touching the brakes or getting a chance to release the accelerator. Our cousin who had come down to Melbourne for our wedding was following behind us on her way back to Sydney (She Drives a 94 Celica) says that if that was her she would have hit the semi or flipped the car trying the same manover. At the time I had the factory springs still on, but had a set of Toyo Proxes Directional tyres which where very low on tred at the time. The handling of the car combined with the good quality tyres I think where the only thing that kept us on the road and in the upright position. Im not saying the Celica is a master handler, but yes it is better built & reacts better than standard cars in those types of emergency situations. I was also lucky it was a dry day and the road was in good condition... Cheers |
