Ok, after searching and not coming up with anything clear cut:
What are the factory soundsystem setups, I.E. head unit combinations, speaker setups, amps??, speaker sizes, ect. I'm mainly trying to figure out what exactly I have in my 99 GT so I can rip them out and throw in better things. I plan to stick with the stock size and throw a sub in the back (probably a single 12, not sure yet). I have what looks to be component speakers in the front doors, but I haven't taken a close look at the rear side speakers yet. Can I get some guidance please?? -------------------- |

The speaker sizes above are correct (assuming you have power locks and windows). If you cant find 8" speakers for the front, there are adapters available to make it a 6 3/4 inch hole on ebay, or you can just make your own with a flat piece of plastic.
As far as head units go, I believe there are 2 different kinds. The first is just an AM/FM stereo that has all of the amplification built into the stereo, just like most aftermarket head units. In that case you will just need a basic wiring harness avaiable at any store that sells car audio equipment (even walmart). The other is a CD player on the top half of the dash opening, and a casette player in the lower half of the dash that are connected together. This setup usually has an external amplifer that is located directly below the stereo head units. I believe you can unplug the wires that come from the car to the amplifier, and use a wiring harness like above, but you will need to extend the wires so that there long enough to reach all the way up to your new head unit. I am not positive that the harness has the same plug though. For mine, I just tested each wire to figure out what it was with a voltometer because my head unit has no amplifier, so I didnt need to worry about finding which speaker wires were which. Here is a how to on installing a stereo For speaker setups, the power window/lock celicas have 2 or 3 speaker componenets in the front, and all 6g celicas have a single full range speaker in the back. The 2 component setups have a tweeter and 8" woofer hole The 3 component setups have a tweeter, 8" woofer and i think a 4" midrange near the door handles. |
