Toyota didn't change anything major in the 3sgte that the Caldina has. To me, its still considered a 3rd generation. If Toyota had added vvti, then it'd be a 4th generation 3sgte.

The intake manifold is also different as it exits at a different angle. You obviously don't know what you're talking about. EDIT: Forgot that it also has DLI with Coil On Plug, top feed injectors and completely different ECU compared to the generations before.
