Ok guys I'm looking for some suggestions and such. I've decided that I'm going to further my basic sewing abilities and practice so I can re-upholster my car. I'm thinking I'm going to do a temporary black vynal theme to replace all the upholstery on the seats and in the door-pad things, along with the visors and headliner. This will set me so I can save up for leather when the car becomes a real project.
I do have a few questions though, and if anyone has suggestions please post them, I'm pretty much a noob at this stuff. For the headliner I thought it would be cool to have like fiber-optics in it...like make the black headliner with the ends of the fiber in it to look like stars ya know? Anyone have ideas on how to make it work and look good? I mean i have some ideas but I just don't know if they're feasible. ~Brian -------------------- 1999 Celica GT

When redoing your headliner ect. be sure to use automotive grade adhesive, I prefer spray on so it goes on evenly and not to thick. If you have a moonroof you'll need to remove that after the headliner to get the fabric that slides. Also be careful when removing headliner, you must first remove A-pillar and side sections in rear as well as the the rear seats. Good luck and pm me with any more Q's.

BUMP- I just had my headliner re-done and i didnt have to take my rear seats out??? And i also did not have to take out any plastic panels. All i had to do was take my seat belts off and just unclip the panels enough to slide the headliner out, i also have a hatch tho, so i can slide it out the back. Anyways, i brought this post back to ask a couple questions about the headliner. Does anyone know if Toyota ever made the headliner in black? I ask because i had mine done in black and i want to buy like the strips along the edge of the sunroof opening edge, and i want it in black. If not anyone have any ideas for me? |
