I have a hatch and like iceman23 I'm looking to do something here as well.
Whether are experiences will help you, I don't know.

The pb with the hatch is that you have a "real" spare wheel which sits up in the boot. I find it a real pain in the but.
So, I am looking at trying (and I stress I have never done this sort of thing before) to make a shaped panel (initially in hardboard) to fit horizontally flat in the boot using the spare wheel as a support at one end and then some sort of support and hinged design the other end (at the back of the rear seats).
This will have the effect of giving you a gap under the board behind the spare wheel where hopefully I'll be able to fit my amp (+ ventilator) and sub-woofers. I'll also be able to access my spare wheel.

Obviously there are many things to take into consideration, but I'm going to have a look at this over the xmas holidays.

I'll keep you posted.
