Hi,
First I must say thanks for all the information on this site. I have spent the last few days reading abou tthe wonderful things that can be done to this car. I am about to purchase a 1995 ST with an automatic transmission. The engine is blown, therefore I would need a new motor. I have read the Feasible Swap thread along with many others. Most discussions focus on swapping the turbo engine, but I am interested in the cheapest route (replace the ST engine) or if possible, the engine from a GT (5S-FE?). Would the GT engine work with the auto transmission? I am guessing that the engine mounts would have to be changed as well. Would I have to make any wiring changes? Thanks |

The car you're about to buy has an "A" series tranny, because it has a 7A-FE engine. If you want to go to a 5S-FE, you need the engine, transmission and motor mounts not to mention the assload of wiring you have to do with any swap, at that point you'd be better off going with a 3S-GTE, but you'd still need to change your transmission and motor mounts because it's an "S" series engine.
If you want to keep your stock auto tranny, I'd suggest a newer 7A-FE or a 4A-GE which is a 20 valve, or a 4A-GZE which is the supercharged MKI MR2 engine. All 3 of these engines are "A" series so they will drop in and use your stock auto, but of course there is still a lot of wiring problems you have to deal with. Like I said, a newer 7A-FE would be much more simple. Edit: Mad spelling errors. This post has been edited by Cutrara: Aug 3, 2005 - 10:30 AM -------------------- |
