$1000, eh?

mid-line alpine deck, about $250.
infinity ref. coaxials, powered off deck, about $70 shipped from ebay such as here
subwoofer power coming from a hifonics brutus
and i liked the earlier suggestion of kicker subs. for lots of thump with a little bit of sound quality, i like kickers. find a couple of comp 12s on ebay and throw them in a ported enclosure wired in parallel and you'll be happy.

that should put you in at under $100. it'll leave you more than enough to purchase materials for building an enclosure and wiring and stuff like that. you don't, by any means, need to use these exact components, but they are tested products that people have been happy with.

peace
