I bought this oil treatment product that says it will stop the smoke my car makes when it starts up by sealing up something, but it says to put the product in the crankcase. Is the crankcase the same thing as where the engine oil goes?

oh no....

ok, the oil on startup is the seals around your valve stems. It happens with wear. If you put that crud in your oil. It will make it thicker and gum up some of the narrow passages reducing the smoke on startup. BAD IDEA!!!

If something you add to your oil increases the viscosity to prevent one problem it is sure to cause many other problems ie: blocking oil pasages to the heads...

Keep driving the car with regular oil changes, if the engine starts to die, replace it or rebuild it. The one sure thing the 'additive' will do is kill your engine sooner.
