Also consider that stock for stock, the 3SGE will require lots of revs to make any power and feel quick....whereas the 3SGTE is a beast and provides a wide range of useful power across the powerband and its easy to make even faster with the aid of a boost controller and simple bolt-on and wire-up modifications. More people in the Celica commmunity have performed this swap and has yielded very satisfying results among all of them.
However the 3SGE motor is far more rare to be seen swapped in, which can be an individualistic appeal thing. Also with some bolt ons, as well as with a little squeeze of Nitrous, the motor could also be downright fast. But it will be far more difficult in every way....from getting the motor, to finding replacement and aftermarket parts, to making more power. However its really an individial choice as to which is the better swap. On that note, I happen to know somebody with a 97 ST who made the right decision and is a very happy person now. -------------------- 3rd gen ST205 3SGTE - Alive and boosting. |

I think you should go for the 3SGTE Swap...Aftermarket parts and performance its the main reason.
For the Beams Engine its hard to find Performance Parts, most of the times you have to go for custom parts or to find a garage in Japan and make for you One-OFF and pre-order them. If you go for the 3SGTE you can find easily many performance parts, and if you decide for more power just raise the turbo boost (of course with the correct setup). Besides Toyota decide to keep the 3SGTE Engine by using it on the Caldina GT-Four so parts will continue coming for that engine,Beams was a short time version. |
