alright, so here's the deal. i just bought this car about a week ago for my fiance and had some ignition problems. i've replaced the internal coil on the distributor, the rotor, , distributor cap, wires, and plugs. i managed to get the car back to running order and everythign was fine till i decided to clean the engine bay, like i do on eveyr one of my other cars... i didn't bother to tie off the distributor since i just sealed everything up nice and tight, same with the fuse box. everything is more than waterproof now. but, as soon as i sprayed a degreaser in the vacinity between the distributor and the starter, the car shut off and blew the AM2 30amp fuse. i finished cleaning the engine bay and let it dry for 2 days, went out there and replaced the 30 amp fuse and it cranked over twice and blew the fuse again. what could be the problem. i have 3 days to figure this problem out and get the car onthe road for a 10 hour drive for my fiance and myself to go back home to meet the folks. i also have midterms all this week, so help would be greatly appreciated. thanks for everything.

for general information, it is a 94 Celica GT, 2200 engine, timing belt replace 3000 miles ago, 121,000 mile on the odo.

Looks like it's either your coil or igniter. Very slim chance that it could be the ECU. I'm pretty sure it's not the starter since it draws it's power from the 60A Main fuse but I guess it could be the starter relay. It couldn't hurt to check your park/neutral position switch as well.

Have you taken your distributor cap off and made sure it was clean and dry?

i did pull the whole distributor out again and made sure that everything in there was okay on her car... it is all dry, no burns from a short or anything so i resealed it and re-installed it. the internal coil is brand new, but i guess it could be defective... is there a way to test it to see if it is working properly. the igniter, that is located on the firewall on the driver's side if i am correct. i will try and unplug it and try to turn the key over just to see if the short is inside and try and bypass it just to turn the engine over. otherwise, i will go ahead and replace it and try to troubleshoot from there. any other ideas would be appreciated.

Chad

i've also taken apart the wiring harness in the engine bay, and sealed it better than the factory, so it is completely watertight now, everything has been unplugged and no water or corrosion was in any of the terminals. so i am kinda stumped at the current moment. i do have a rental car for now and my car will be out of the body shop in 2 weeks, just wating on parts from Germany.

Thanks again
