I'm getting a loan for about 5,000 and I want to rebuild my engine and turbo my car, has anyone bought one of these kits and seen if it works alright?

i dont think you guys really know what you are getting into when you decide to turbo or swap your car.

everyone thinks "i had my mechanic swap new tires on the car and this tubo install will go just as smooth and reliable as the tire job did! " its just not like that in the real world. also, why would you ever want any "speed shop" to install a turbo for you? your the one that is going to have to live with it and deal with any issues that pop up along the way. not to mention that most of these shops dont know jack about how to turbo a celica.

Great post. smile.gif

Thanks for the plug. One of these days I'm really hoping to go fulltime and then the swap will take MUCH LESS TIME. smile.gif

As for what choice you should make, it really depends on what you want. In general, an engine swap is more reliable than turboing a non-turbo engine, since the swap is actually a stock engine (from another car). In general, turboing a stock engine is cheaper. I would not recommend A, D, or E.

I have also heard nothing but bad about those kits. Be careful, as several companies market the same one under a different name. You can tell it's the same kit because they use the term "extreme" on them. I see they have since dropped the lower kit with no intercooler, they had a term for that one too but I can't remember it right now.

On that note, I am planning on developing a turbo kit for both the 5th gen and 6th gen Celicas in the very near future. If you want to help me develop the kit then I'll give it to you for cost, it will be around $2200 and will take about the same amount of time as the swap would. It will be a very solid, reliable kit with a lot of R&D put into it to make sure it's right.
