Hi 6gc.net crowd....
I have a 206K mile engine, and i'm wanting to install a turbo...my questions are: - -would it tear the existing engine up? (or cause any harm?) ...The car has been well cared for and kept current on repairs by pro mechanics... - -is it possible to install it myself? (i've built a Caterham Lotus 7 kit car...but that had detailed instructions)...basically is the turbo a tricky install? ***let me know what you think*** -------------------- Past: V6 Swapped 6G Celica, E46 BMW M3, Jeep Wrangler TJ

(or cause any harm?) adding a turbo any NA motor will reduce its lifespan. seeing as how yours is very old already, i would worry even more. with a motor that old, you might have a lot of seals, rings, etc that are on their last leg anyway so making the motor produce more power will only help wear those even faster. ...The car has been well cared for and kept current on repairs by pro mechanics... thats great! but never trust mechanics, start doing all your own work and learn as much as you can if you want to get into this type of thing - -is it possible to install it myself? I HIGHLY recomend you do it yourself and do NOT trust anyone with it. spend about 1yr reading and researching everything you can about how turbos work and all the info that has been collcted here before you buy anything. ***let me know what you think*** your engine is very old. it might be a better idea to research doing a swap instead of a turbo kit . this way youll get a newer motor with less miles that is turboed and tuned by toyota. -------------------- 15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned
