I am late commenting too but have a few thoughts.
First, other than forums that have 10 times the traffic we do, the layout and forum selection of this site is the best, bar none, that I have ever visited. The simple breakdown of categories generates traffic and interest IMO. We have a fairly small number of cars compared to generations of other vehicles yet good traffic level and some very informative members. While its a testament to the 6gc enthusiasts, the website design deserves due credit as well. Second, the non-forum information is also top notch. The only change I would suggest is posting the BGB for the N/A car and for the GT4. Given the popularity of the 2nd gen 3sgte, it would be nice to post the BGB from the 90-93 alltrac as well. I know that there has been a concern regarding proprietary information but many forums, including celica-tech, have been doing it a long time without any problems. Quite frankly, I think the availability of this information increases the willingness of owners to fix their cars by buying more parts from Toyota. They are actually making money from it! Also, their bread is buttered by hard core Toyota enthusiasts who they want to keep loyal. I don't see them objecting anytime soon. And, if they do object, they are not going to sue you for copyright infringement. Those suits cost money. They would just send a letter asking you to remove the information which would take about 30 minutes I imagine. Put those BGB's on-line Coom! Third, I think the mods do a good job of monitoring the site, cleaning up little things, and trying to strike a balance between free expression and not letting things get out of hand. God knows its not a job I would want. Manny's "more involved" approach was, in my opinion, necessary given some of the posts and threads that have been created. I encourage the mods to continue to search for that balance while being mindful of the fact that public critism is not inherently bad. Be guided by the principle that true information and honest commentary are to be encouraged. The integrity of the information put on the forum (and thats what the site is all about really) depends on it. Fourth, and this is a little pet peeve of mine, I believe the site needs to have three letter searching. So many other forums have it that it makes me wonder why we don't. For those of us that use the search function (which is to be encouraged), it would be an immeasurable help. My humble opinion is that this should be a top priority as you look to do further upgrades because there is nothing, outside of the BGB's, which will help the visitors of this site more. Although I feel strongly about this and have mentioned it in the past, my comment should not be interpreted as overly critical because its a small issue that is overshadowed by the many positive features of the site. All in all, I say the site is a testament to a job well done. Good luck and continued success. - Jay -------------------- QUOTE(lagos @ Jul 10, 2006 - 1:55 PM) i know your trying to do the right thing for your motor, but this is one of those times where you should just trust the guys who have had their swaps for a while and have done a ton of research into this. |
