i hear that starting your car is the equivalent of letting your car idle for about 3 minutes or so, and by equivalent i mean the amount of gas being used. Has anyone else heard of this? Or if it is true?

I dont think that is true.
But if you were to keep turning your car off and on. Your starter motor will go pretty soon too.
