i hear that starting your car is the equivalent of letting your car idle for about 3 minutes or so, and by equivalent i mean the amount of gas being used. Has anyone else heard of this? Or if it is true?

I always thought it was like 2 min.. But yeah you always want to let you engine warm up before driving it.
