 Rim offset, What is the best offset for rims? |

I would like to maximize wheel base but I don't want the time to stick out. I would like for the wheels to sit nicely underneath the car. Could anyone help me on this deparment?

offset 40, wheel width 8 inch, tires, 215-40-17 or maybe 225 40 -17...mium......
