I posted this on MySpace. I'd really like to see what you guys have to say about this.
"Why, in the past year, has cocaine become the new weed? Instead of "getting stoned off pot" at parties, people are in the bathroom doing lines of coke. My uncle and aunt lost their baby because they were doing it in front of her, and selling ALL of their stuff to get it. I lost a few friends because their personalities changed 100% because of their drug use. They would become violent and out of control. It makes me sad." My best friend in the entire world started doing it after she and I moved in together.. and it completely changed our relationship.. she broke into my room.. bleached my things.. f-cked up things. She is not the person I went to high school with. She is completely different. And that friendship which was the best friendship I ever had is now over because of it. Where are these kids my age getting the money to do such things? What is wrong with our society? Please let me know your opinions. I'm really interested and concerned. -------------------- |

I really dont know if i tottaly agree about coke being the new weed... Around here, ive seen coke only to be cool in circles who are from a more affluent backround, especially so in high school aged kids, who think that coke is as much a status symbol as it is a way to get high... I do think that its becoming the more "it" drug, as in the way weed was in the early 90's when the NWA and Death Row crew were hyping it up, but the usage of coke is minimal at best when you compare it to smoking marijuana... I know a TON of people who have 9-5 jobs, i would say respectable members of society, anywhere from the mid 20's to in their 50's who will smoke marijana during "special ocassions" like a reunion party of old friends, family reunion, ect... The only people I know who do coke are people looking to get a quick high who are typically younger, at parties, who want to have that halo effect of being cool by doing somthing taboo. Of course there are a few people ive seen get addicted to drugs, not just coke, who always chase that high, but thats not the norm ive seen by any means... I do think its incredibly stupid, but its reality and life, and just to say that coke is becomeing the new weed is not a totally accurate statement. Weed has been a pretty common and consistant part of drug culture, so to speak, ever since it was highlighted by the media in the 1960's up until today. I cant think of another drug that has had such lasting power and popularity since...
